On back: "Frank H. Furness assisted in recruiting company "I," and was mustered Second Lieutenant, October 14th, 1861. Promoted and mustered First Lieutenant "I" company April, 1862. At the organization of the Cavalry Corps by General Hooker, in the spring of 1863, Lieuttenant Furness was ordered to the staff of General Stoneman, and served with the Cavalry Corps as aide-de-camp until after the battle of Gettysburg, when he rejoined the regiment and was promoted Captain of "F" company, with which he served until mustered out with it, October 4th, 1864.
